Mick Foley Tells The Story Of How Vince McMahon Encouraged Him To Lose Weight

Foley's network special.

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley recently returned to WWE TV after being away from the sports-entertainment company for well over a year. In his return Foley announced that he was set to be the Special Guest Referee for Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman's WWE Universal Championship match that took place in the main event of this past Sunday's 'Hell In A Cell' PPV. Foley played his role in the match and at the end of it he was pepper-sprayed by Paul Heyman as the returning Brock Lesnar made his way into the structure and laid waste to both Reigns and Strowman.

Immediately after 'Hell In A Cell' ended, one of Mick Foley's shows from his '20 Years Of Hell' tour aired on the WWE Network and a clip from the special was posted on WWE's YouTube channel. In this clip Foley told the story of how he was encouraged to lose weight by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Foley shared that on the day he weighed in for Vince, he was told by Stephanie McMahon that Vince was proud of Mick for dropping the weight that he said he would.

“This is a true story: When I got back in touch with Mr. McMahon and I was just telling Nita and Josh this backstage, and I had been out of contact with Mr. McMahon - I was told it was important to him that he reestablished a friendship with me and so I texted him - I was like, ‘Hey, do you want to be in contact more regularly?’ He said , ‘I’d like that’ - I don’t know [if] that's the way he sounded in his texts.” Foley laughed. “And then, when I talked to him on the phone a couple of days later I said, ‘No one’s ever verified this but, I believe part of the reason I’m rarely on the show is - its difficult to watch me get around. Its so troublesome to get anywhere and we’re supposed to take people’s minds off their problems not remind them of the problems we have, and I said… and he didn't say yes and he didn’t say no. I said, ‘I just want you to know I’ve lost 25 pounds with a goal of losing 80 by Christmas’ and once I heard his voice on that phone say, ‘I’m gonna hold you to that’, I knew I could do it. It was that voice in my head late at night when the refrigerator would be saying, ‘Come here, come to me’, and then I would hear that voice saying, ‘I’m gonna hold you to that’ and so I dropped 80 pounds and on that day that I weighed in for Mr. McMahon… Stephanie, his daughter probably told me three times in the course of the day - ‘My father is so proud of you’." Foley stated.

As mentioned, "The Beast Incarnate" Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE at 'Hell In A Cell' and Lesnar will have his chance to become a two-time WWE Universal Champion when he competes in a Triple-Threat match against Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns at 'Crown Jewel' on November 2nd.
