Mickie James Says Nick Aldis Had Given Up On The Idea Of Wrestling Again Before WWE SummerSlam Match

Mickie James says Nick Aldis had given up on the idea of another wrestling match before SummerSlam.

This year’s SummerSlam saw the in-ring return of SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. He wrestled Gunther on Night 1 of the show, before returning to his duties as the General Manager the next night.

Speaking with Ben Veal of Wrestling Life Online, Mickie James (Aldis’ wife) talked about his in-ring return. James shared that Aldis had completely given up on the idea of a match because he was satisfied with his work in WWE, both on camera and behind the scenes.

“I think that he had kind of just given up on that option completely and not in a way that was like ‘it’s hard’ but very satisfied in the role, what he’s been doing, what he does on television and also behind the scenes. Because he just loves wrestling so much and he’s very smart, very good at it. But I think that he had just kind of come to the conclusion that they didn’t hire him to be a wrestler. This is who he is and he was okay.”

Later, James noted that despite being happy in his role, there was a little urge inside Aldis to wrestle a match.

“He was totally complacent, happy where he was. But always, there’s that little urge inside of you if the dream was to actually have a match. It’s amazing how when you kind of like let it go and then it kind of comes to you. The most magical way. It’s just like you couldn’t have written it any better.”

In August, James praised one of Chelsea Green’s promos on SmackDown. Fans can read more about it here.
