Mickie James Says The 'Piggy James' Story Was Difficult For All Participants

Mickie James reflects on the 2010 “Piggy James” storyline that focused on her appearance.

Mickie James returned to Raw on 8/17 and was less-than-pleased with her return. Mickie James has had her share of questionable storylines over the years, perhaps the most notable controversial angle of her career being “Piggy James.”

In early 2010, Mickie feuded with LayCool over the WWE Women's Championship. During the feud, Michelle McCool and Layla mocked the appearance of the former champion, leading to Mickie gaining vengeance, and another title run, at the 2010 Royal Rumble.

Mickie James was recently on Ring the Belle and provided a retrospective look on the controversial storyline and how difficult the subject matter was for all participants at times.

“It was hard at the moment, and I think it was hard for everyone in order to do it,” says James. “There would be times I was like, ‘oh I think this might be a little too far.’ But I will say the end goal was to get Michelle and Layla over as monster heels and as the big heels, and I think it was very successful in that retrospect. I think that for a generation of people especially now with [things] like speaking out and anti-bullying, it's given people the power of their voice because words are so powerful.”
