Mike Santana: The Indies Are Alive And Well

Mike Santana is one of the top stars in TNA Wrestling, but fans can often see him competing at an independent show every weekend.

Santana has competed at AIW, ESW, WrestlePro, Beyond, HOG, and more indies throughout the year as he continues to build his reputation as one of the most giving wrestlers in the sport.

Speaking to BCP+, Santana commented on working the indies.

“I was always taught by guys I came up under to always pay it forward. Now, on the indies, there aren’t a lot of veterans with the experience that I have and have done the things that I have. If I have the opportunity to do these shows, work with younger guys, and offer a bit of advice that can help them on their journey, by all means, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I always say that I want there to be a business after I’m gone. That’s how much I love this. If there is any way I can help anybody progress…nothing was ever given to me. I busted my ass for everything I have. People just pointed me in the right directions. Nobody ever said, ‘Do him a favor.’ They just pointed me in a direction, and I put in the work. That’s what I try to do. Offer advice, point them in a direction, and now it’s up to you. You have to put in that work yourself. I love that I’ve been able to be on the indies. There is a lot of young talent out there that are killing it. I saw something where people were like, ‘The indies are dead.’ [Scoffs]. I don’t know what indies y’all are talking about, but I’m on the indies weekly. It is alive and well. There is a lot of talent out there. In the next couple of years, there is going to be another resurgence and another crop of indie guys that are going to come up and take over. I’m excited to be part of that at the ground level and watch these guys grow. It’s been awesome,” he said.

Elsewhere during the interview, Santana commented on losing the TNA World Title after a month. You can find his full comments here.
