Shirakawa said the new song she debuted was created by a friend.
AEW hosted the Beach Break edition of Dynamite on May 14th and one of the bouts on the card was a four-way AEW Women's World Title eliminator match.
The match featured Women's World Champion 'Timeless' Toni Storm, AZM, Skye Blue, and Mina Shirakawa which was her first match as an AEW-contracted talent. Shirakawa arrived with a new theme song but after she won, her old theme played. AEW President Tony Khan confirmed on social media that he changed it after seeing the online reaction to Shirakawa's new theme.
On the latest episode of Close-Up w/ Renee Paquette, Shirakawa spoke about that moment. She said for her first match as an AEW-contracted talent, she wanted to introduce something new so she used a theme created by her friend. She was surprised when she heard her old song and thought it was a mistake.
“So, for returning to AEW, AEW debut, I want to change something… My friend made me a song, a new song and so, I love that track. I love the song. But, maybe, my fans loving my old one. Yeah, because very iconic. Tony (Khan), during match, changed my music… Yeah, I win (Shirakawa started singing the tune of her original theme). So maybe I feel, oh, it was mistake. So after match, I asked Tony, ‘Oh, so my music, what happened?...’ He loved the old one. But I love both of music. But, maybe (the old song) is very Mina-style, very iconic…”
Shirakawa's win in the eliminator bout led to her challenging Storm for the AEW Women's World Championship at Double or Nothing. Storm successfully retained in their match.
