Mississippi Welfare Scandal Trial Involving Ted DiBiase Jr. Paused Until February 23rd, 2026
The federal government agreed with the judge’s decision.
A judge has delayed the federal trial against former WWE wrestler Ted DiBiase Jr. and several co-conspirators until February 23rd, 2026, according to the Mississippi Clarion Ledger.
DiBiase Jr. is being charged in the Mississippi welfare scandal case. DiBiase Jr.’s defense attorney fell ill, and the defense asked for a mistrial.
The judge ruled on January 21st that a mistrial was unnecessary and that DiBiase Jr.’s other attorneys could take over, and the current select jury could remain in place.
The federal government agreed with the judge’s decision.
DiBiase Jr., along with several co-conspirators, is alleged to have fraudulently obtained federal funds, which include money from the Emergency Food Assistance Program and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
DiBiase Jr. has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, and four counts of money laundering.
If he is convicted, he’ll be facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the conspiracy count, a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each wire fraud count, and a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and for each count of money laundering.
