Místico & El Desperado Capture IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles At NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2026

New Junior Heavyweight Tag champs.

One of the title matches on the bill for night two of NJPW Wrestling Dontaku on May 4th was the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship match. TMDK’s Kosei Fujita and Robbie Eagles put the titles on the line against El Desperado and CMLL’s Místico.

The match was originally supposed to be a non-title bout, but after a post-match exchange between the two teams at Wrestling Dontaku night one, it was decided to make it a title match.

The backend of the match saw Fujita trap Desperado in a submission while Eagles battled with Místico. Místico got the better of Eagles, which led to Desperado getting out of the submission and putting Fujita in a submission hold. Fujita would tap out.

It was Místico’s first title win in New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 17 years. He won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship from Tiger Mask in 2009. Desperado is now a five-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

NJPW x CMLL Fantasticamania at Arena México is scheduled for June 19th. Místico is the reigning CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion and also has a dual contract with AEW and CMLL.
