The stage is set for one of the most anticipated finals in the history of professional wrestling.
After months of competition that began over the summer, the Opera Cup — the oldest tournament in the sport — will reach its final destination in Charleston, South Carolina, one of wrestling’s most storied cities.
Místico advanced to the finals after an electrifying semi-final victory over Austin Aries, while Volador Jr. earned his spot in controversial fashion, defeating former MLW World Champion Satoshi Kojima thanks to interference from Rugido and Magnus. Now, two of Mexico’s most iconic luchadores will collide center stage for the right to hoist the Opera Cup.
For the first time in the Opera Cup’s rich lineage dating back to the late 1800s, two Mexican athletes will meet in the finals — marking a historic moment for both the tournament and the sport itself.
This year’s tournament has featured world-class athletes from MLW, CMLL, and NJPW, all fighting to etch their names into wrestling immortality.
MLW will honor the legacy of the Opera Cup by returning it to its roots — literally. For the first time in 100 years, the tournament finale will be staged inside a theater, just as it was held in opera houses in the 1800s and early 1900s. In a bold homage to history, MLW will go “back to the future” by placing the ring on stage, recreating the same setting where champions once clashed under the theater lights of a bygone era.
As part of the triple main event for MLW x Don Gato Tequila, this historic showdown will see Místico aiming to become a two-time Opera Cup winner, while Volador Jr. looks to cement his place in MLW history and claim one of the most prestigious trophies in wrestling.
The eyes of Mexico — and the wrestling world — will be on Charleston as two of CMLL’s finest warriors bring lucha libre excellence to the oldest tournament in the sport.
