Miz Doesn't Intend To Be A Transitional WWE Champion After Waiting 10 Years For A Second Reign

The Miz believes he is WWE Champion for the long haul

The Miz is finally a two-time WWE Champion after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase successfully on Drew McIntyre. While many feel he is destined for a short run as champion, The Miz has waited long enough for this opportunity that he has no plans on being a short-term, transitional champion.

“I do not plan on being a transitional champion,” Miz said to Sports Illustrated. “That idea only fuels my fire and hearing it is nothing new. It makes me think back to when I cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and won the belt in 2010. People thought I would lose, but I didn’t.”

He continued, “Instead, I won the WWE Championship. When I won, I heard I was only going to be a transitional champion, but I went on to main-event WrestleMania and I won, as a bad guy, in the main event, which never happens. Ten years later, I heard the same thing: I’d never win the title. So this is another opportunity for me to prove people wrong, which is what I plan on doing.”

WWE would tout The Miz as a history-maker with his second WWE Championship win. With his win at WWE Elimination Chamber, The Miz became the first-ever two-time WWE Grand Slam Champion in history.

The Miz didn't just break the Internet at WWE Elimination Chamber, he made history.

By cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and defeating Drew McIntyre to become a two-time WWE Champion, WWE's A-Lister also became the first two-time Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.

In addition to his two WWE Title victories, The Miz is an eight-time Intercontinental Champion, eight-time Tag Team Champion and two-time United States Champion. Sunday marked Miz's second successful cash-in, more than 10 years after he cashed in against Randy Orton on Raw on Nov. 22, 2010.

As a Grand Slam Champion, The Awesome One was already among exclusive company that includes WWE Hall of Famers Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle.

Several other Superstars are on the cusp of the two-time accomplishment, with Seth Rollins and Edge both one more United States Title victory shy, while Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston are a second WWE Championship away from joining the elite club. But The Miz currently stands alone after beating them all to the punch.

Knowing The Miz, he certainly won't hesitate to brag about his latest accomplishment. What's next for the new WWE Champion, and how will McIntyre respond after the stunning series of events?

Unlike his first run, this time there was no scowling “Miz Girl” in attendance. However, “Miz Girl” did give her thoughts on Miz’s second crowning achievement. Learn more at this link.
