MVP Explains Why He Is WWE United States Champion Following Extreme Rules

MVP was scheduled to challenge Apollo Crews for the WWE United States title at Extreme Rules. Unfortunately, Crews was not cleared to compete and the match never took place. Because Crews didn't show up, MVP declared himself the new United States Champion.

Following the event, MVP appeared on Booker T's Hall of Fame podcast and explained why he should be recognized as the United States Champion.

When asked about the match, MVP said, "It was grueling, it was demanding, but I gave it my all and I was able to walk away the champ. Possession is nine-tenths of the law, right? Apollo signed the contract to have a match and he was unable to show up. He violates that contract, therefore he forfeited his right to call himself United States Champion."

WWE announcers stated that Crews is out of action with a bulging disc stemming from an attack by Bobby Lashley a month ago on Raw. They said Crews showed up at the Performance Center on Sunday at Extreme Rules, but didn't pass his medical test

WWE still recognizes Crews as the United States on its roster page.
