Naomi Discusses Her WWE Hiatus: 2019 Kicked My Ass

It was a rough 2019 for Naomi as she was off WWE television from July 2019 through the end of the year, finally returning at WWE Royal Rumble.

In September 2019, she revealed she was going through health issues, but would return when the time was right. Speaking on Women's Wrestling Weekly, Naomi opened up about her health issues and more.

"2019 kicked my ass. I lost my cousin, who was like my sister. She passed tragically while giving birth. I never had to deal with anything like that. There was no way I could focus at work going through that. So I took time off. Before that happened, I was extremely exhausted, extremely tired, maybe for like the past year. We all work so hard and we never want to say 'I need time off' or 'I need a break.' The only time I had ever taken time off was due to injury, and even that wasn't time off because you're so stressed out about you're spot being taken and trying to rehab. I finally had to get myself together mentally, emotionally, and physically so I asked for that time off to bury my cousin and be at home with my family and her kids. I went to the doctor to see what was wrong with me because it was hard for me to get through matches. I was fatigued all the time and I was chugging energy drinks to get through the day. I found out I was severely anemic. So bad, to the point where the doctors told me had I came in later, the count was at 9.4, if it had gotten under 9, I would have probably needed a blood transfusion. I found out I had a stomach ulcer and was vitamin D deficient. I don't know how I was going through my schedule. That woke me up and made me realize I need to take better care of myself. I didn't expect to be off that long, but that's what ended up happening. But I needed it. It was a hard time, a scary time," she said.

Anemia is a condition where the blood doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells.

She went on to say she was thankful to get time with her family and did not take it for granted.

Naomi is now back on television and a featured star on WWE SmackDown. She is set to face Carmella on Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown with the winner challenging Bayley for the SmackDown Women's Championship at WWE Super ShowDown.
