In the mid-2000s, Necro Butcher was one of the premier independent wrestling names and a cornerstone of the independent hardcore scene. His 2006 match against Samoa Joe received critical acclaim and he would later be featured in Ring of Honor as part of the Age of the Fall along with Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black aka Seth Rollins.

In 2008, he would be featured in the movie “The Wrestler” starring Mickey Rourke. Butcher played himself and was featured in a hardcore fight against the fictional character, Randy “The Ram” Robinson.

Butcher recently resurfaced at a GCW event in 2019, noticeably looking frailer than in his heyday. He would go on to wrestle a little more in Japan. In 2020, he was inducted into the 2020 Class of the CZW Hall of Fame.

Fightful wishes the best in his fight against cancer.
