New Hampshire Lottery Commission: It Is Unlikely We Would Consider WWE Suitable For Sports Betting

In March, CNBC reported WWE was in talks with state gambling regulators in Colorado and Michigan to legalize betting on high-profile matches.

The promotion registered with the Indiana Gaming Commission in a related move to legalize betting on matches. Colorado Division of Gaming has already stated they were not currently considering and have not considered allowing sports betting wagers on WWE matches.

New Hampshire has followed suit.

“I have a fear of accepting wagers on any event that is perceived to have an outcome that is not based upon performance, but is based upon scripted or engineered efforts,” New Hampshire Lottery Commission executive director Charlie McIntyre told Sportico. McIntyre, a former prosecutor, added, “It is very unlikely that New Hampshire would consider the WWE suitable content for sports betting.”

It was previously reported that WWE was working with the accounting firm Ernst & Young (EY) to secure scripted match results in hopes it will convince regulators there’s no chance of results leaking to the public. Accounting firms PwC and EY have historically worked with award shows, including the Academy Awards and the Emmys, to keep results a secret.
