New Intercontinental Champion Crowned On 8/21 WWE SmackDown

On the first night of the ThunderDome, the Intercontinental Championship changed hands.

Jeff Hardy pinned AJ Styles on SmackDown tonight to win the Intercontinental title, becoming a five-time champion. Hardy won the title with the help of a knee brace he was wearing throughout the match. The night started with Styles attacking Hardy's leg from behind, nearly getting him medically uncleared to compete. Throughout the match, Hardy was barely able to move as well as he normally does, but still managed to pull through and pick up the victory to become a champion once again.

With the win, Hardy moves into a tie with Triple H, Edge and Wade Barrett for the sixth-most reigns in WWE history as Intercontinental Champion with five. This is also Hardy's first Intercontinental Championship win since 2007.
