New Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion Crowned On NXT

The tournament to crown an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion is over.

After weeks of matches and eight participants, El Hijo Del Fantasma was the last man standing, beating Drake Maverick to win the interim title.

El Hijo Del Fantasma opened the tournament with a win over Jack Gallagher, but after a loss to Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, he won Group B by defeating Akira Tozawa.

Maverick was one of several WWE superstars, producers and employees to be released, but was allowed to remain in the tournament as he was one of the participants announced prior to being released. Much like El Hijo Del Fantasma, Maverick lost an early match in the tournament, in Group A, this time to Jake Atlas. Maverick was able to force a three-way tie between him, Atlas and Kushida after all three finished with a 2-1 record. Maverick advanced to the finals after winning a triple threat match to win Group A.

The actual champion is Jordan Devlin, who is currently unable to travel to the United States from the United Kingdom and thus, unable to defend his title. As such, a tournament was created to name an interim titleholder. There is no word on when Devlin will return to defend his title.
