SANADA is the new IWGP US Heavyweight Championship.
SANADA dethroned Hiroshi Tanahashi at NJPW New Year's Golden Series on February 19, winning the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship from "The Ace."
After a back-and-forth bout where both men pulled out all stops and survived the best their opponent could throw at them, SANADA gained the pinfall by moving out of the way of Tanahashi's high fly flow and then capturing Tanahashi in a leg clutch.

This marks the first reign for SANADA as IWGP US Heavyweight Champion and his first singles title in NJPW. Tanahashi won the belt at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16 night two when he defeated KENTA. He made zero defenses of the title.
