The last time New Japan Pro-Wrestling was in Madison Square Garden, it was for the G1 SuperCard show that was co-promoted with Ring of Honor wrestling. On that night during  WrestleMania 35 weekend, Kota Ibushi would capture the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Tetsuya Naito and, in the main event, Kazuchika Okada would defeat “Switchblade” Jay White to capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship once again.
