Tama's celebration was short-lived as The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) made their return to NJPW. The duo took out Tama and then laid out Tanga Loa and Jado as well.

This marks the first reign as NEVER Openweight Champion for Tama Tonga. He is a former four-time NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champion and seven-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. EVIL won the title at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16. His reign lasted 117 days and included two successful title defenses.

This was the first NJPW appearance for the Good Brothers in Japan since 2016.
