Wagoner (Cal Bloom) was the replacement for Kyle O'Reilly, who was attacked earlier in the night by Ridge Holland & Dunne.

Ciampa picked up the victory with the Fairy Tale ending on LA Knight.

This marks Ciampa's second reign with the NXT Championship. He was forced to relinquish the title on the March 20, 2019 episode of NXT due to injury, bringing an end to his first reign, which lasted 237 days.

The bout was originally scheduled to be a number one contender's match where the winner would face Samoa Joe. However, on September 12, Samoa Joe relinquished the NXT Championship due to injury. The following day, NXT General Manager William Regal announced that the fatal four-way would be for the vacant championship.
