New AEW TNT Champion Crowned At AEW Full Gear

Darby Allin finally did it.

The fourth time was the charm for Darby Allin against Cody Rhodes. At AEW Full Gear, Darby defeated Cody to win the AEW TNT Title, scoring the victory after a series of pinfall reversals. The story of the bout was Cody targetting the arm of Darby, but getting a little too cocky in the ring, leading to some mistakes and eventual downfall.

This marks Allin's first reign as the AEW TNT Champion. Cody had previously defeated Darby in two matches, including the first round of the AEW TNT Title tournament, and went to a draw in their first-ever singles bout.

After the bout, Darby didn't have much time to celebrate as Team Taz (Brian Cage & Ricky Starks) attacked, putting Darby through the Full Gear special set, and trying to break Darby's arm by slamming a car door into it. Before they could finish the job, Will Hobbs made the save.

In other news coming out of the match, Cody is now Cody Rhodes again. Justin Roberts introduced him as such and the chyron graphic had "The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes."

During Thursday's AEW media call, Cody said he would not use the Cody Rhodes name in a wrestling capacity, but was happy to have it back for third-party purposes.
