Nic Nemeth Discusses ‘The Art Of Selling’, Praises Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns And Penta’s Selling

Nic Nemeth discusses several talents who excel in the art of selling in pro wrestling, including Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Penta.

On last Monday’s edition of WWE Monday Night RAW, Roman Reigns would defend the WWE World Championship against Penta in Mexico City. Throughout the match, Reigns would sell an injured arm that was the result of Penta’s offense, drawing praise from fans and now a former co-worker.

While speaking to Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth spoke about the ‘art of selling,’ where he would have praise for Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Penta.

“You know who catches everybody off guard a lot is Brock because we don’t see Brock sell too much, and when we do, when it’s big, before this Oba run, try and take that out of your mind. You don’t see him sell too much, and when you do, it’s exquisite. I am someone who sees it as an art, especially that aspect of it, and I’ll catch little holes in my moves and different things that I do that could have been better. Watching him sell, it means more because the equity has been built into that. He is a cyborg, non-human being guy that if I hit him with a bat from behind, he might not even know. So it’s like, but when you see him in trouble or backpedaling, it’s a thing of beauty because it really stands out. He’s really good at selling when it comes down to it. I’m telling you, like, not just the Oba (feud), but take that out of your mind. It’s a beautiful thing to see. Yeah, it really is, and even… Roman’s another one. He just had this incredible match with Penta. If you take that out of it, once in a while, you’re like, ‘oh, here’s Roman. He’s going to walk to the ring for half an hour. He’s going to do his thing and all, and his Bloodline is going to interfere, and he’s going to win.’ But when you get down to him and Seth or those special moments in between, you see the look on his face, and he really did some special selling, some stuff on his face and character work this last week with Penta, that match, because of the emotion, and there’s levels to that. You can take something incredible that it looks like you got knocked out of your arm broken, and then after that, even if you throw it away, it was pretty good. But then you see it still is in there. It’s still involved, but not quite the same. That is the different levels of taking a bump or making something and the emotion comes through, and Penta, too, let’s not pretend. He has a mask on and paint on the rest of his face, and I saw emotion on him for that entire match that most people who don’t have a covered face and don’t have face paint don’t pull off. It really felt like we were feeding off of them, feeding off of those in the crowd and the moment of it, and just their faces really brought it into… that proves it’s not about moves. The moves are fantastic. The moves are signatures. Everybody has their things. But when you have that raw emotion that you see in their faces and it translates to the crowd’s faces, that’s what pro wrestling is about.”
