Nikki Bella's revelation that she agreed to marry Artem Chigvintsev back in November was a surprise to kick off the new year from the longest-reigning WWE Divas Champion in history.
Speaking about her engagement during the most recent episode of The Bellas Podcast, Nikki reveals that she was taken aback by how quickly Artem proposed but did note that the moment was filmed for Total Bellas and she is excited for the audience to see how it unfolded.
"I will admit it was very shocking because Artem and we've been together a year but it was very beautiful and like our families were there. And here we in France in this castle, it's my birthday, and Artem proposed," Nikki began. "You guys, of course, Total Bellas was filming and I think that's why I didn't see it coming because I was like, 'there's no way he will do it why we're filming.' Well, he did, but the way he proposed, he was so nervous which made me so nervous. All of a sudden, when I could tell how nervous he was, I got really nervous and I in my head I'm like oh yeah this isn't a birthday surprise him or this guy's about to propose to me."
Nikki would go on to say that she is definitely going to take our time with this engagement and is not rushing into planning a wedding. She would note that she is finding herself having moments of reflection wondering how much she should publicly expose her private life. She would, however, say that she feels like she disappointed her fan base by not being able to fulfill the happy ending scenario with her first engagement to John Cena.
"I'm definitely going to take my time getting married. That was the one thing I told Artem is I was like I do not want to plan a wedding anytime soon I really want to take our time being engaged and just soak it in, but I'm extremely happy. You know the one thing that I love is like you just love happens and there's no rules. I feel like everyone tries to have rules of like well you have to be together this long to get engaged. I don't say that at all. No, I think it's changed over the years. But Artem just taught me that love has no rules. It really doesn't. And it's so beautiful when it's like that when you could just love," she'd say.
"I felt that when the first time around people were very upset at me not just because of the situation of my breakup but because I didn't give them their fairy tale ending. Yeah, they were on this journey of something I wanted for five years. No six years. And then they didn't get that."
The next season of Total Bellas is expected to premiere in 2020 on E!
