NJPW Sakura Genesis set to return in 2021.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced Sakura Genesis will be held on Sunday, April 4 at Sumo Hall. Sakura Genesis will be New Japan’s first event at Sumo Hall since the G1 Climax finals in October 2019.
The event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic and not held in 2019 as NJPW traveled to Madison Square Garden for G1 Supercard. The event was previously titled Invasion Attack until 2017.
The winner of the New Japan Cup typically challenges the IWGP Heavyweight Champion at Sakura Gensis. The New Japan Cup is scheduled to begin on March 5 with the finals to take place on March 21. Participants for the New Japan Cup have yet to be announced.
The Road to Sakura Genesis is scheduled to begin on March 28. NJPW will hold four Road To events ahead of Sakura Genesis.
