NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed New York Delayed Due To Ambulance Mishap

Unfortunate situation at NJPW in New York.

New Japan Pro Wrestling was set to hold night two of their Fighting Spirit Unleashed tour on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET. According to  PWInsider, the event was delayed due to a "logistical issue" as an ambulance was stuck in traffic on the way to the show. New York Athletic Commission requires an ambulance to be on hand for events.

At 7:57 p.m. ET, Rocky Romero came out in front of the live crowd and apologized for the "technical issue" before tossing t-shirts to the crowd.

It turns out, there was more to the story than just an ambulance being stuck in traffic.

PWInsider reports that the ambulance company Hammerstein Ballroom uses for all events did not show up. The company was reportedly told by someone on Saturday morning that the NJPW show at Hammerstein had been canceled and that they were no longer needed. NJPW and Hammerstein scrambled and secured an FDNY ambulance to be at the show so matches could begin while another ambulance could arrive. However, the New York Athletic Commission would not allow that as there were no EMTs present.

At 8:14 p.m. ET, an ambulance and EMTs arrived at the venue. The show got underway shortly after.
