Takagi has established himself as a major star in NJPW since signing with the company in 2018, as he as won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship once and the NEVER Openweight Championship on four seperate occasions.

From NJPW:

Shingo Takagi is celebrating his 20th anniversary since his debut this year. It has been urgently decided that a commemorative tournament will be held in his hometown of Yamanashi Prefecture on Saturday, September 7th!

Takagi, who won against Yuya Uemura in the first round of "NEW JAPAN CUP 2024" held at the main event of the 3.8 Yamanashi / I Messe Yamanashi tournament held this year, said, ``From what I hear, the Yamanashi tournament will be held by the end of the year. Apparently it happens once.Speaking of autumn, I made my debut as a professional wrestler exactly 20 years ago in autumn,'' said Mike.

``The Yamanashi tournament that fall will be decided at my discretion, but...Shingo Takagi! Isn't it okay to hold a tournament to commemorate the 20th anniversary of your debut, oi!?'', he passionately promoted his commemorative tournament.

Perhaps this claim has come to fruition, as it has now been officially decided that Shingo Takagi's 20th anniversary performance will be held at the same venue.

The details of this tournament will be announced at a later date.

The promotion is set to return to Chicago on Friday, April 12 for the Windy City Riot event. Learn more about the card for the show by clicking here.
