NJPW New Year Dash Taking Place January 6 At Ota City Gymnasium

With New Japan Pro Wrestling making massive changes to the Wrestle Kingdom schedule, the traditional New Year Dash show has also undergone a transformation.

The company announced that next year's New Year Dash, New Japan's post-Wrestle Kingdom show, will take place January 6 at the Ota City Gymnasium. This change was made as a direct result of Wrestle Kingdom being a two-day event running from January 4 to January 5 instead of just January 4. New Year Dash typically took place on January 5 at Korakuen Hall in previous years.

The move to Ota City Gymnasium will also mean New Year Dash will have a bigger venue to fit a larger crowd for the show.

From NJPW:

New Year Dash is one of the wildest and most unpredictable nights of the NJPW calendar. Following the huge Tokyo Dome event of Wrestle Kingdom every year, it sees Korakuen Hall packed to over capacity to see the fallout from the biggest event of the calendar.

In 2020, Wrestle Kingdom is bigger than ever, with two nights in the Tokyo Dome on January 4 and 5. New Year Dash will move to January 6 to accommodate the huge Tokyo Dome weekend, but that’s not all. After the biggest ever Wrestle Kingdom, what could be more fitting than the biggest ever New Year Dash!!?

That’s why January 6 2020 will see New Year Dash come to Tokyo’s Ota City Gymnasium! This venue has hosted big New Japan events since its very inception, the first NJPW card emanating from there in March 1972, and it’s the home of annual anniversary events. This year, the building saw a classic battle between Taiji Ishimori and Jyushin Thunder Liger, as well as Hirooki Goto’s war with Jay White and Hiroshi Tanahashi versus KENTA during the G1 Climax.

We’re very excited to announce that our global fanbase will be able to witness New Year Dash up close and in person, with inbound ticket sales planned. Details will be announced at a later date, but it’s safe to say that this is the ultimate conclusion to the biggest of wrestling weekends!
