Oba Femi wants to break the stereotype surrounding big men in wrestling.

Femi is the current WWE NXT Champion and before that, he would hold the WWE NXT North American Championship. During his time in NXT, he has shown to be one of the top big men in the company, reviving the character type on WWE programming.

While speaking to Going Ringside in a new interview, Oba Femi was asked about wanting to break the current stereotype surrounding big men in pro wrestling.

“The current big man is viewed as a lumbering buffoon who is gifted an opportunity solely because of the way he looks. I am here to tell the fans and condition them to believe that it’s more than that. That the big man can talk, can wrestle, has charisma, can cut a promo, can hold a program. That’s more than just, I’m not here because of just the way I look. I’m not here because I’m 6’5″, 6’6″, and 300 plus pounds, and I passed the airport test. No, that’s not why I’m here. I’m here because I’m an experience.”

Oba would then be asked about what he meant by the airport test, with the NXT champion explaining the situation.

“The airport test. So the airport test basically is when you walk into the terminal, do you turn heads? When you walk into a room, do you turn heads? Do people go, who’s that? He looks important. That’s the airport test. And I pass the airport test. Everywhere I go, I tower over everybody.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Femi spoke about the possibility of retiring both John Cena and Randy Orton. You can read more about that here.

Trick Williams recently also had an interview with Going Ringside, where he noted that Femi is ‘the man’. You can read more about that here.
