Pat McAfee almost hit the independent scene.
In August 2020, Pat McAfee shocked the world by defying expectations in his match with Adam Cole.
As it turns out, McAfee planned on hitting the independent scene before that match. Triple H prevented that, saying that he needed to be wrestling with WWE if he's going to be wrestling at all. McAfee recalled the conversation on the latest episode of Stephanie's Places.
Stephanie McMahon: “I remember when Paul first started talking to me about you. I was like, Oh, Pat McAfee?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, he has this podcast and he’s crazy and he’s awesome and I don’t know, I just really wanna bring him into NXT.’
Pat McAfee: “I was like, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go hit the indies and see if I can do this or not.’ He was like, ‘Don’t you even think about it. You need to be doing it with us if you’re going to do it at all, let’s just figure out a good time for it.’
McAfee competed at an IWA East Coast event back in 2009, defeating Warpig in a singles bout.
Elsewhere in the episode, McAfee recalled getting his first call from Michael Cole. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
