Paul Heyman On How Involved He Is Off-Screen: I Serve At The Pleasure Of Paul Levesque

Paul Heyman is here to serve.

Over the years, Heyman has been a bit of a swiss army knife for WWE, often taking on multiple backstage and on-screen roles at the same time.

Alongside his recent on-screen alliances with the likes of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, Heyman was spotted in multiple creative meetings during the WWE Unreal show. Heyman would later confirm that he only attends a select amount of those meetings.

During his recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Heyman was asked to talk about how much he is involved in off-screen stuff at this point in his career.

“How much am I involved? You know the old expression, I serve at the pleasure of — In my case, it would be that I serve at the pleasure of the chief creative officer, Paul Leveque as much as or as little as I’m needed on a particular day. There are some days that I’m not needed that much, everything is there and everything is in place and everybody has what they’re going to do and they know it in their head. There are other days where a lot of talents need a lot of direction or a lot of motivation or a lot of inspiration or a lot of understanding about their performance, whether it is understanding what’s on a script or understanding that it’s only a script as a placeholder and it’s not what you say, but how you say it. It’s far less scripted now word for word. In fact, it’s not scripted word for word. The words are there, but it’s all about what are we selling, what’s the emotion involved? That’s what I’m there to teach the young talent. Bron Breakker and I are on camera together because I was working so closely with him behind the scenes. I truly believe that’s the future of our company, that’s a guaranteed WrestleMania main eventer multiple times in the future. Jacob Fatu, a guaranteed WrestleMania main eventer multiple times in the future. I can say the same thing [about] Rhea Ripley, guaranteed WrestleMania main eventer multiple times in the future if we find the right story and right opponent for her in that capacity. These are people I love working with. I get to work with everybody else too. If anybody comes up to me, I don’t turn them down. I’m happy to work with the talent, I’m happy to work with the talent that sits there and you see their eyes open for the first time realizing, ‘I don’t have to say these exact words, I can put this in my own words, it’s all about the emotion I convey and the connection that I can make with the audience.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, Heyman responded to Goldberg’s negative comments about his retirement match.
