Paul Wight clarifies that he is still with AEW.
Paul Wight joined AEW in 2021 and has held various roles within the company. During AEW Dark: Elevation, he was the color commentator alongside Tony Schiavone. He has wrestled for the company at times, been in a position of authority in Ring of Honor, and sometimes, he's just at ringside with The Rizzler.
However, some wonder if he is still with the company because he's not frequently on television. During a recent interview with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Wight was asked to clarify his status. He proudly said he is still with AEW and appreciates how Tony Khan treats his employees.
"I am still with AEW. I'm still very happy with AEW, very happy with Tony Khan and what he's doing. I think there's a lot of couch bookers out there that always have the best ideas on what should be done. They're not the worst, because everybody's entitled to their opinion. I appreciate Tony and the way he treats his talent, and the kind of liberty that Tony gives talent to discover themselves and find themselves. It's not a cookie-cutter process in AEW; they're not saying, 'This is your ring entrance. This is how you pose. This is what you wear.' AEW is very grassroots, authentic. For me at this stage of the game, I appreciate that."
In the past, Wight has said there were plans for him to wrestle as Captain Insano in AEW. Learn more about that here.
Another wrestler who recently praised Tony Khan for how he treats his employees is Josh Alexander. Learn about how that influenced his decision to sign with AEW here.
