Paul Wight: Mercedes Mone Would Be A Great Asset To Any Company That Could Secure Her To A Contract

Paul Wight comments on the rumors surrounding Mercedes Mone.

On January 4, Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, made her NJPW debut at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, where she laid out KAIRI. For weeks, fans have been speculating that Mone is on her way to AEW, as Saraya was set to team up with a mystery partner to face Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter on the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite. On the January 4 episode, Saraya named Toni Storm as her partner, but many fans remain convinced that Mone will cone to AEW one way or another.

Speaking with TMZ Sports, Wight, a member of the AEW Dark: Elevation broadcast team, was asked to share his thoughts on the situation. First, he noted that wrestlers have options now, as there are multiple viable companies where they can work.

“For a long time, everybody got spoiled because there was one company to work for. Now, there are multiple, viable companies again to work for. So it gives talents an opportunity to express themselves and create the details they wanna make. So I think it gives a chance for someone that’s maybe stagnant in one company to move to another [and] reinvent themselves. The name of the game is keeping yourself viable," Wight said.

When asked whether Mone would be a great fit in AEW, Wight made it clear that she'd be a great asset for any company. He then made it clear that he doesn't know whether there is any truth to the rumors of her arrival in AEW, but he emphasized that Mone would be an asset for any company that could sign her to a deal.

"I think she’d be a tremendous asset to any company to have her. She’s definitely a star and has an incredible fan following. I think any company would be glad to have her. You’re talking to me? What do I know? I’m a commentator on Dark: Elevation. My name’s Paul and that’s between y’all. She’d be a great asset for any company that could secure her for a contract," Wight said.
