Paul Wight Says Hulk Hogan Was Infatuated With The Captain Insano Gimmick

Was Mr. America just a knock-off Captain Insano?

Speaking with Renee Paquette on the newest episode of Oral Sessions, Paul Wight shared a story about how Hulk Hogan told him to get the Captain Insano gimmick for himself.

Tommaso Ciampa Walks Out Of DIY Interview After Loss On 4/22 WWE Raw

In case you don't know, this was the name of the character Wight played in The Waterboy (1998). In his lone scene, he appeared as a professional wrestler who, during a backstage segment took a fan-call from Bobby Boucher (Adam Sandler) asking if he required the services of a waterboy. Captain Insano proceeded to laugh hysterically after he found out that Boucher was 31 years old.

Here is the full quote from the interview:

"Plus, I found out today that, somebody sent me a link that AEW just patentee and applied for trademark for Captain Insano. So yeah, I might bring back Captain Insano. Wouldnt that be great? I will totally rip Hulk off any chance I can get. [Imitating Hogan] 'Let me tell you something brother, Captain Insano shows no mercy, dude.' You know what's funny, is when I did Waterboy years ago, Hogan actually said, 'brother, you should get that gimmick. That gimmick's funny. He thinks outside of the box. 'Brother, that gimmick's funny, brother. Captain Insano, that's funny, brother.' I think the whole reason he did Mr. America is because he was infatuated with Captain Insano [laughs]."

Hogan and Wight (then The Giant) were working together in WCW at the time of the film's release.

AEW filed an application to trademark Captain Insano on March 3 for use in video games and digital media.

Paul Wight (formerly Big Show in WWE) was signed by AEW on February 24 and will serve on the commentary team for Dark: Elevation. He appeared at Revolution on March 7, unveiling Christian Cage as the company's latest signing.
