Persephone Talks Upcoming Match With Mercedes Mone, Feels Like She’s Defending Her Home In A Sense
Persephone is ready to bring the CMLL Women’s World Championship home.
The star luchadora is set to challenge Mercedes Mone for the title at CMLL’s La Noche de Las Amazonas event on Friday, March 6. This will be Mone’s first match of the year.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Persephone talked about the match and said like it feels like a culmination of her recent success in wrestling.
“Yeah, I would think so, right? This Friday, I think is gonna be that final test of last year was a great year. Maybe that match I had against her in October didn’t end the way I wanted, but overall I think it was a great year. I won the Grand Prix, went to Tokyo, to London, I did a lot. So I think this kind of feels like a culmination of all that. This is kind of the way to end everything I’ve done in the past and kind of like seal it that I am who I know I am.”
Continuing on, Persephone noted that she wants to bring the Women’s World Championship back to CMLL.
“But then also kind of start a new chapter now as CMLL Women’s World Champion and on a higher note because I think, yes, I’m going into that match kind of defending our home in a sense that I’m trying to bring back a title that’s ours, that’s a CMLL Championship, and I think a CMLL amazona should be holding that championship. But at the same time now, I’m under contract with AEW. So now I’m also going against a colleague, if you would say, right? It’s not defending someone from outside now. I’m actually gonna beat a colleague, because that’s the plan. I’m going in with the intention of beating this person that I now work with on the other side to even maybe position myself on a higher level in AEW, like use it to my advantage. So I think there’s a lot riding on this match.”
