Pete Dunne Is Happy Drake Maverick Got His Job Back, Wants To Work With Him At Some Point

The wrestling world has undergone some big changes over the past three months with the COVID-19 pandemic closing things down and limiting rosters for WWE.

Pete Dunne has been stuck in the UK due to the travel ban and he's noticed that the NXT brand has changed quite a bit while he's been away.

"It feels like it’s transformed in only a space of two or three months has it been? I’ve lost track of time to be honest. In that short time I feel like I’m going into a completely different locker room. There’s so many people that have come in and established themselves," Dunne told Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT. "Honestly, someone that I would like to work with would be Drake Maverick. We never really got to work with each other, but we’re both from Birmingham, the chances of all these lads from the West Midlands being able to make names for themselves in the WWE… I never would have predicted that years ago. So I’d love to get in there with someone like him and I feel like it would be an interesting dynamic. The way he is and the way I am would be something people probably wouldn’t expect that would be really interesting."

Drake Maverick was part of the WWE company-wide cutbacks on April 15, but managed to win his job back. Maverick had already been announced for the interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament, was allowed to continue in the tournament, and ended up getting a new contract at the end of it.

When discussing the storyline involving Maverick, Dunne said, "The only thing I can think is, he got a job back. That’s what he really wanted, so I’m happy for him. There’s no other way I can see it other than that. Whether people like that storyline or not doesn’t rally matter, the important thing is, at the end of it, he got a contract and he’s happy. But I’d love to do something over in the States or back in the UK, however this pans out with travel restrictions and whatnot. Who knows?"

It is unknown when Dunne will be able to return to the United States and resume his time in NXT. He was one-half of the NXT Tag Team Champions alongside Matt Riddle before the pandemic.
