Pete Dunne is happy WALTER is in WWE.
Pete Dunne has been reigning as WWE United Kingdom Champion for over 600 days and that reign was put in jeopardy when Dunne went one-on-one with 'Gallus' leader Joe Coffey at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool. Dunne and Coffey went to war for over 30 minutes but in the end it was "The Bruiserweight" emerging victorious from the bout. As Pete Dunne was celebrating his victory in the ring, "Dvorak Symphony No. 9, IV." hit over the speakers and fans inside the 'Empress Ballroom' knew exactly who it was and out came the PROGRESS World Champion WALTER.
WALTER confronted Pete Dunne after big-booting Joe Coffey out of the ring and NXT UK fans were instantly talking about WALTER versus Pete Dunne main-eventing the next TakeOver show. Pete Dunne wants that match too as it will be the first time he will get to work with WALTER in WWE although the two have met on numerous occasions on the independent scene. Dunne spoke with the media following NXT UK TakeOver and shared that he's excited about WALTER being in WWE and thinks a match between them would be a great TakeOver headliner.
“It’s an exciting prospect. I think he’s done great work on the independents. He’s someone I wanted to have here for a long time, and I think it just goes to show how deep the talent pool is in Britain. I know he’s not British but he’s definitely made a name over here, and I think it goes a lot deeper than that too. I think that’s how this thing is going to continue to grow [by] bringing in people like that." Dunne explained. "I can’t wait to get in the ring with him. He’s someone who [has] a completely different style than anybody I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with in this company, so it’s an exciting prospect.” Dunne continued, “Sure, that’d be brilliant [Dunne vs. WALTER at TakeOver]. I’d love to do that match in the U.K. as well -- we can get a second TakeOver going, so that’s a short term goal for me is getting him to TakeOver and that’d be a great match to headline in my opinion.”
