Black was asked 10 questions as a part of a column series with Ring of Honor, where he mentioned the advice, and his new ROH attitude.

What advice did your father give you about the wrestling business when you decided to follow in his footsteps and pursue it as a career?

My whole life, good and bad, has unfolded in front of people, so I try to make better choices now. The universe is my guide now.

It would appear Gabriel didn't listen. He went on to date WWE ring announcer JoJo Offerman, as chronicled on Total Divas. He once stated that the producers actually made him break up with her on television as a part of the show.
