Matt Richards has stepped down from his roles in PROGRESS Wrestling.
Richards served as the ring announcer and creative team member for PROGRESS before making this decision. He said in his statement on social media that he has fallen out of love with pro wrestling after many women have come forward and accused dozens of British wrestlers associated with PROGRESS of sexual abuse or assault.
Over the last few days I've discovered that people who I previously regarded as friends have committed inexcusable & appalling acts. I wholeheartedly support those who have spoken out. My feelings can't possibly compare to the impact this will have had on those affected— Matt Richards (@mrichardshost) June 20, 2020
This morning I made the decision to step down from both my roles in creative & as ring announcer at PROGRESS Wrestling— Matt Richards (@mrichardshost) June 20, 2020
Quite openly & honestly, I've fallen out of love with wrestling
PROGRESS has already cut ties with multiple wrestlers who have been accused as part of the Speaking Out movement over the past few days including David Starr, Ligero, and Travis Banks.
