PROGRESS makes a game-changing announcement.
PROGRESS Wrestling co-founder Jim Smallman made a big announcement today, unveiling the new PROGRESS Proteus Championship. The belt was named after Greek Sea-God Proteus, who could change his form at will. In the spirit of the Greek God, the PROGRESS Proteus Championship can take on many different forms as the current titleholder will be allowed to pick the stipulation for the championship bout.
The Proteus Championship will take the place of the Atlas Championship, which is officially retired following WALTER unifying the World and Atlas Titles at Super Strong Style 16 with his victory over Trent Seven. The Atlas Title was created in 2016 with only wrestlers over 205 pounds being allowed to compete for the title. Along with WALTER and Seven, only Matt Riddle, Doug Williams, and Rampage Brown held the title.
PROGRESS clarified that any stipulation picked by the champion must be approved by the promotion.
The first Proteus Champion will be crowned at PROGRESS' Sept. 15 event in a Rumble match.
