R-Truth Responds To Triple H Saying Truth Was Never Fired, ‘It Felt Like A Firing’

On June 1, R-Truth announced that he had been released by WWE. It was later reported, and confirmed, that his contract was set to expire and wasn’t going to be renewed.

After an outpouring of support and fans chanting “We Want Truth” on WWE Raw, WWE NXT, and WWE SmackDown, Truth returned to the promotion at WWE Money in the Bank, less than a week after his release announcement.

On WWE Unreal, Triple H spoke about the situation, saying, “We got to a point in Truth’s run where his contract was coming up. When you are dealing with contracts and money and you’re very far apart in the numbers and communication breaks down, it’s very easy for both sides to read into the communications differently. ‘Okay, well, if you’re not going to come to us, then… Your contract is at the end. We’re not going to renew,’ Knowing that hopefully maybe this will force his hand to say, well, hold on a second. Can we talk? He immediately went out on social and said he was fired, which he was never fired. Contrary to prior belief, he was never not under contract with us.”

Appearing on The Breakfast Club, Truth gave his side of things.

“I got the call. I got my agent working on this end, their agent (on the other). I’m going to stay out of that. Let them handle that. I get a call from this side saying, ‘We’re not going to renew your contract.’ It’s Sunday. Next Sunday is when my contract was ending. ‘Do I come to work?’ ‘No, don’t come to work.’ ‘Am I done now?’ ‘Yes.’ There was no flight, no calendar. What do you call that? I don’t know if it’s all the same or if it’s different,” he said.

Truth was then read the quote that Triple H gave on Unreal.

He responded by saying, “My agent and their people were talking. I was staying out of that. I got a call from this person who said, [your contract isn’t being renewed]. I wasn’t even in the dialogue situation. This is the first time having an agent handle my business. I’ve always done my own business. This is my first time where I stayed out of dialogue. That’s the way I took it. It felt like a firing to me. That’s when I took that moment and couldn’t figure out how I felt.”

Asked if it felt sudden, Truth confirmed, “It was sudden. We were in negotiation. Never once did I feel bitter, jaded, or anger. I was just at a loss for feeling, words, and emotion.”

While making the media rounds, Truth gave details on his new WWE contract. You can find his comments here.
