Reason Why WWE Changed Singles Matches Into Tag Bout At WWE Evolution

In surprising twist on Raw, WWE changed the Alexa Bliss vs. Trish Stratus and Mickie James vs. Lita singles bouts into a tag team bout with Stratus and Lita teaming to face Bliss and James

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, this was the plan all along. Meltzer reports that WWE felt they needed to announce a big match when tickets went on sale. Stratus returning to face Bliss, considered a dream match by some, was that big match. Once Ronda Rousey's title defense against Nikki Bella was announced, the company pivoted towards the tag team bout.

Meltzer reports that the Stratus vs. Bliss bout was not as big as the company had hoped and that ticket sales had stalled. On Sept. 9, it was reported that WWE had sold 7,000 tickets for Evolution, with 2,400 going to scalpers. The building will be set up to hold roughly 10,900 fans.

WWE Evolution is scheduled for Oct. 28 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Fightful will provide live coverage of the event and a post-show podcast.
