Alberto El Patron is reportedly no longer coming to AAA.
According to Emily Pratt at FanByte, Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) has been pulled from his match at AAA TripleMania XXX on April 30. Originally, he was the planned mystery partner for Laredo Kid. Now, Patron's replacement is set to be a wrestler from the American independent scene.
Alberto was reportedly chosen because AAA booker Konnan “felt like he needed a big star, a big surprise.” There are reportedly no “long-term” plans for him in AAA, but “there had been rumblings that he would be back in AAA eventually.”
The original report noted that Alberto was not the original choice for Laredo Kid’s partner, but visa issues caused the change.
Alberto was arrested in May 2020 for allegedly battering and sexually assaulting his girlfriend. After multiple trial delays, the charges were dropped on December 2021 because of a “missing witness.”
Patron has remained active in Mexico over the years after finishing a run with IMPACT Wrestling in 2018, though he has wrestled limited matches due to no shows and legal issues.
Fightful will have results from AAA TripleMania XXX on April 30.
