Report: Austin Aries And IMPACT Wrestling Working "Loose Cannon" Angle

Austin Aries is working a modern day Brian Pillman angle.

According to Damon Martin of SEScoops, Aries' walkout at Bound For Glory was the beginning of a "loose cannon" angle that is expected to play out in the coming months. The idea was pitched by Aries, who wanted to do his version of the famous Pillman angle in the mid '90s. During that angle, Pillman was "fired" by WCW and went to ECW to gain more heat. However, Pillman never returned to WCW and was eventually signed by WWE.

Bound For Glory ended with Aries getting up immediately following his loss to Johnny Impact, shouting at IMPACT executive vice president and announcer Don Callis, and flipping off fans as he made his way backstage. IMPACT Wrestling reportedly tried to shop the story to TMZ. Those backstage were reportedly not clued in and one source said it felt like a move made by the old TNA regime.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Petey Williams stated that Aries' contract had run out and that Bound For Glory was his last match under his current contract. Aries was not at the television tapings on Monday night. IMPACT has another set of tapings tonight in New York. Aries is not scheduled to appear at Tuesday's tapings.

The report indicates that Aries will begin showing up at other promotions across the country, giving the impression that he is indeed finished with IMPACT Wrestling before making his return down the line.
