Report: Cain Velasquez Requests Special Permission To Compete At 12/3 AAA Show

Cain Velasquez reportedly wants to return to the ring while he's out on bail.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion was granted bail on November 8 after he was charged with attempted murder, among other charges, on March 2. Velasquez allegedly shot into a vehicle in which Harry Goularte was sitting and hit his stepfather, Paul Bender. Goularte had been accused of sexual misconduct with Velasquez's four-year-old son

Marc Raimondi of ESPN cited sources who noted that Velasquez and his team have been discussing the possibility of him competing at the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide event on December 3. Raimondi notes that the show is particularly meaningful to the former WWE star, as it will be held at Arizona State University's Mullett Arena, and Velasquez was a two-time All-American college wrestler at the school. Velasquez needs to get the court's approval in order to compete at the show, but if he gets it, Raimondi notes that he's expected to compete.

Velasquez is under travel restrictions due to the conditions of his bail. Per MMA Junkie, Velasquez made his request at an arraignment in a Santa Clara (California) County court on November 21, where he and his attorney made a motion that would enable him to compete at the AAA show.

When a district attorney representative objected and requested for the hearing to be rescheduled so lead prosecutor Aaron French could be present, Judge Daniel T. Nishigaya responded by redirecting the matter to a judge who is more familiar with the case. The ruling is expected to be made on November 22.

Velasquez previously wrestled at AAA TripleMania Regia II in December 2021. He also competed at AAA Invading NY and TripleMania XXVII, in addition to his match against Brock Lesnar at WWE Crown Jewel 2019.
