WWE had big plans for Jinder Mahal before his latest setback.

Mahal took to social media on Friday to inform fans that he had to go back under the knife to fix some knee issues. It is unclear how significant the injury is or when he will return to the ring.

Mahal was out of action from June 2019 to April 27 due to a knee injury. Upon his return, McIntyre strongly hinted at a feud with Mahal given their history in 3MB and paths to success after their respective releases in 2014. McIntyre told Busted Open Radio in May, "I know a lot of people out there when they hear [Jinder] initially, they're going to think, 'No, that's not what we want right now.' Trust me, ya'll will see the bigger picture. There's a real story there, not just the story on television where we're in 3MB, we both got fired, we came back, we won World Titles. There's so much more behind the scenes that happened. So much more that happened in our personal lives that we'd be comfortable putting on television for a World Title feud. We'd put it all out there. He just needs to keep building some steam, I need some time to cement myself as the champion. When the crowds come back, I need a heel who is a real heel. We have a true backstory. When he won the World Title, people weren't so happy about it. When I won it, I was praised. Perhaps there's a little jealousy and we have the story outside the ring. For everyone out there that's not sure, trust me, it would be something special because it would be real."

McIntyre is currently set to defend his WWE Title against Bobby Lashley at WWE Backlash. You can view the current card for Backlash by clicking here.
