Report: Joey Janela Was Originally Scheduled To Be Eli Drake's Bound For Glory Opponent

New York fans were left disappointed when James Ellsworth showed up to answer Eli Drake's open challenge at Bound For Glory.

The Voices of Wrestling twitter account first mentioned that Ellsworth was not the original plan, but did not elaborate.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Joey Janela was the original opponent in mind for Drake. Unfortunately, Janela suffered a knee injury at GCW's Live Fast, Die Young event on Sept. 21. Janela tore his PCL and MCL on a dive from the top rope to the outside onto Psicosis. The injury will keep him out of action indefinitely.

Johnson goes on to report that IMPACT Wrestling was planning on using Janela as a regular moving forward.

The crowd did not react kindly to Ellsworth, chanting "fuck you Ellsworth" during the segment. The segment was saved by the end thanks to an appearance by Abyss.
