Kamala is currently on life support following emergency surgery.
Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Kamala's stepdaughter posted the following on Facebook on Sunday: “Kamala James Harris had emergency surgery this morning around 3am they didn’t think he would make it out of surgery but God. He’s on life support.”
She later posted an update today saying that he is showing signs of improvement.
He started wrestling in 1978 and would wrestle round the United States until joining the Memphis territory as Kamala the Ugandan Headhunter. He feuded with Jerry Lawler, then moved to the Mid South and World Class territories until going to the WWF in the mid 1980s but changed his nickname to the Ugandan Giant. He rejoined the promotion in 1992, with his most memorable match being one against the Undertaker at that year's Survivor Series. He later turned babyface and had Reverend Slick as his manager until he left the promotion in 1993.
He made sporadic appearances on WWE television since then, last appearing in a match against Umaga in 2006.
Kamala had struggled with health issues in recent years that led to both legs being amputated. He last wrestled in 2010.
We'll post any further updates on Kamala's condition as we get them.
