Report: Marty Scurll Had On-Screen Role At NJPW Strong Tapings

More details on Marty Scurll's potential role in NJPW.

On Wednesday, Fightful reported Marty Scurll was backstage at a recent NJPW Strong taping in Los Angeles and had expressed interest in rejoining the company. Further details regarding his involvement at the tapings were not known.

Emily Pratt of Fanbyte reports Scurll did have an on-screen role at the tapings on January 22 and was involved in a post-match angle with Rocky Romero. The angle has yet to air on television.

The source told Pratt, "They weren’t trying to hide him. I thought we were going to be the company that wasn’t booking these guys to get some buzz. They’re going to get buzz alright, but probably not the kind they’re looking for. And it just reeks of letting things slide because these people are all friends or whatever. I really just think fans should know his involvement beforehand, so they can choose to tune in or not.”

Scurll last worked for NJPW in the Best of Super Juniors Tournament in 2019. He did appear at NJPW The New Beginning USA on January 27, 2020. He last wrestled at ROH Gateway To Honor 2020 on February 29, 2020.

He was named as part of the Speaking Out movement in June 2020. He was accused of sexual assault in 2015 and issued two separate statements on the accusations. After a lengthy investigation, ROH announced in January 2021 that the company and Scurll had mutually agreed to part ways.

Fightful has reached out to NJPW but haven't heard back.
