WWE just added a big indie name to their female ranks, if reports are true.
According to SoCalUncensored, the 39-year old veteran Mercedes Martinez has signed with WWE and will report to the Performance Center in Orlando this month. Martinez is widely considered one of the top women's wrestlers in the world.
Martinez is the current champion of AWS, and their promoter Bart Kapitzke seemingly confirmed the news to SoCalUncensord, saying he'll likely have a tournament to crown the new champion.
In 2018, Martinez competed in what was billed as the longest women's wrestling match of all-time against Tessa Blanchard, defeating here in a 75 minute Iron Woman match. She participated in the first two editions of the WWE Mae Young Classic, making it all the way to the semi-finals of the first one. In addition, she's made numerous appearances on NXT TV, and competed in the Casino Battle Royal in August for All Elite Wrestling. She folllowed that up with another match on AEW Dark.
Fightful has reached out to several sources in an effort to independently verify the news.
