Report: Sareena Sandhu Wasn't Supposed To Team With Charlotte Flair At WWE Superstar Spectacle

WWE Superstar Spectacle saw the debut of many Indian talents, but there was one performer who was not supposed to compete at the event that was afforded a major opportunity because of emergency circumstances.

The one woman's match on the spectacle, which aired on Tuesday morning in the United States, saw Natalya and Bayley lose to Charlotte Flair and Sareena Sandhu. Sandhu scored the pinfall off the back of Charlotte Flair hitting Natural Selection, but Sandhu was not even supposed to be teaming with Flair in the first place.

According to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider Charlotte was originally supposed to be paired with Kavita Devi, the first-ever Indian-born female WWE Superstar. During the event, a vignette aired hyping up Devi before Michael Cole, who called her a “trailblazer,” revealed that she would not be at the event due to a family emergency back in India.

Sandhu has wrestled elsewhere in the past as Samara. She even received an IMPACT Knockouts Championship match against Allie during a One Night Only event in 2018. On commentary, it was even mentioned that the same person who trained Sandhu trained Bayley.

Kavita Devi has wrestled on major stages in the past. Appearing in Mae Young Classic Tournament matches and even competing at WrestleMania in 2018 during the WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal.

Speaking with Firstpost, Devi explained how much WWE expanding into India means to her while explaining that she may miss the show.

“This is a huge event, especially for us Indians. We are expecting a lot of love and support from Indian fans. But due to some personal reasons, I might not be able to participate. India’s aspiring WWE wrestlers will get to rub shoulders with some of the best in the industry. That is what makes this event special.”
