Report: The Rock Took Signifcant Paycut For ‘The Smashing Machine,’ Gave Portion To Emily Blunt And Mark Kerr

The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is one of the most bankable box office draws in Hollywood, reportedly commanding upwards of $20 million per film.

According to Deadline, The Rock took much less for “The Smashing Machine.”

The outlet reports Rock took $4 million to do the film, and gave a portion of his paycheck to his co-star Emily Blunt and Mark Kerr, who the film is based on.

“The Smashing Machine” opened on October 3, taking in $6 million for opening weekend, which was the lowest opening weekend ever for a Rock-led film.

Rock said about the film and opening weekend, “From deep in my grateful bones, thank you to everyone who has watched The Smashing Machine.

“In our storytelling world, you can’t control box office results — but what I realized you can control is your performance, and your commitment to completely disappear and go elsewhere. And I will always run to that opportunity,” he continued while summing, “Truth is this film has changed my life.”
